Spencer and Meteor 17 have entered into a long-term (5 yr)agreement with Fathom Events to produce compelling content on two significant verticals important to both Fathom and Proffer - Music and Social Responsibility. Documentaries and media produced by Spencer and his team are the anchor of the plan.

Fathom Events and Meteor 17 Form Strategic Partnership for Content Development

DENVER: Fathom Events, owned by AMC, Regal and Cinemark theaters, is the #1 distributor of limited theatrical releases, live and cultural events, concerts as well as premiere movie theater events, providing content to niche and core fan bases in 42 countries around the world. https://www.indiewire.com/2019/04/cinemacon-box-office-fathom-events-distribution-1202054726/

Fathom have entered into a long-term, “First Look” and production agreement for projects to premiere on the Fathom Events platform with Meteor 17, founded by highly respected music and media producer, Spencer Proffer. Proffer will serve as the Event Producer addition to Added-Value Content Producer for the parties.

The projects which are born, developed and produced by Meteor 17 and Proffer, will go downstream to a broadcast network or SVOD exhibitors, after their Fathom premiere.

That will be the primary focus of this long term partnership, given the vision and quality of Proffer produced documentary films in the music lane. Here is a vision overview:

On the docs Proffer produces:

  • Documentary films produced by Spencer Proffer use the power of collaborative art to uplift communities and inspire self-expression.

Told through our icon’s first-person accounts, M17 films plan to use the subject’s personal archives to revisit and reveal rare behind-the-scenes moments in his life and work over the artist’s desire of career and content exposure. Interwoven into these emotional reflective moments are dynamic present day snippets of new work being created and new collaborations being made.

Proffer produced docs are about the artiste’s work that takes the viewer inside his process and reveals the way his projects impact the world

Spencer feels the music unites, inspires, and empowers all who come in contact with them. GOAL: To Uplift and of course, entertain.

In the instances where Spencer serves as the Event Producer for select, third party projects, mutually agreed upon between Fathom and Proffer in addition to the original content produced through M17, this agreement will focus on the music vertical as well as culturally relevant and inspirational topics and initiatives, both of which are foundational to Fathom and Meteor 17.

As the Event Producer, Proffer will work with involved parties, including superstar musical talent, political leaders, pop culture icons and their concerts, programs, interviews and speeches. Additionally, he will produce original, added-value segments, which will screen alongside the core exhibitions. These segments will showcase the visionary as well as timeless works, relevant to audiences today.

Proffer will bring multiple projects to Fathom Events over the next five (5) years.

As a solid e.g. of how this nexus works, in 2018 Proffer produced a highly successful project resulting from this partnership. It was a collaboration between Meteor 17, Authentic Brands Group and Fathom Events, bringing the iconic Elvis '68 Comeback Special, directed by Steve Binder, to 2382 theaters in 32 countries around the world. It drew 227,450 attendees over two nights, grossing in excess of $ 2.2M in two nights. http://www.meteor17.com/elvis-comeback-theater-event

Another compelling film, which was a successful event on the Fathom platform, grossing $ 486,000 in one night before exhibiting on HBO was "The Cold Blue". The documentary chronicled the men of the 8th Air Force who flew mission after suicidal mission in the 2nd World War on the legendary B17 bomber, The Memphis Belle. This WWII film features recently discovered and meticulously restored raw color footage from The Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress. It was originally directed by the legendary director William Wyler and filmed aboard B17s during combat air missions. This restoration was a multi year labor of love for director, Erik Nelson. It was followed by Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Farewell tour live, from TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida, in front of 50,000 fans.

"Fathom Events is thrilled to partner with Meteor 17 and founder Spencer Proffer, to expand the wide range of content offerings to consumers in movie theaters everywhere," said Fathom Events CEO, Ray Nutt. "This special arrangement allows Fathom to continue offering high quality content to the largest audiences around the globe."

Proffer has been aligned with Fathom for over 14 years, producing multiple successful one-night events in movie theaters, beginning with "Rockin' The Corps" on behalf of the U.S. Marine Corps, headlined by Beyoncé with Destiny's Child and KISS. Proffer produced the event with manager Doc McGhee, executive produced by Quincy Jones and hosted by Cedric, The Entertainer.

Proffer produced "Diana Ross: Her Life, Love and Legacy" featuring "Diana Ross Live in Central Park," which was shown in partnership with Fathom Events in thousands of theaters around the world.

"I am excited to work with the team that Ray Nutt has assembled for Fathom Events," said Proffer. "Their vision, passion, integrity, knowledge and appetite to raise the bar make them an ideal partner to present innovative entertainment."
