The Carter Twins

Growing up in Akron, Ohio, 19-year-old twins Josh and Zach Carter were surrounded by music from the time they were born. Their mother worked in country radio and encouraged their interest – Zach stole time at her piano, while she taught Josh “Stairway to Heaven” on the guitar.

The family recently relocated to Nashville from South Carolina so the twins could pursue their music career full-time under the development of CMT and Meteor 17. Still settling into their new digs, Josh and Zach spent the summer working with some of Music City’s best songwriters and crafting as many as 60 songs in just six months. Their debut album has collaborations with Charles Kelly (Lady Antebellum), Liz Rose (Taylor Swift), Tia Sillers (“I Hope You Dance” and numerous #1 hits) and a host of other top tunesmiths.

Their first single, “Heart Like Memphis,” garnered national attention, making them one of the fastest-rising new artists on the digital charts. The Carter Twins are outselling over the current country chart titles on downloads, out streaming nearly all new country acts on My Space, out searching over half the current country acts on Google – thus showing they totally connect with audiences, both on the radio and live.

The Carter Twins has been selected as one of the key musical ambassadors to this years’ Very Special Christmas Vol 7 album for the Special Olympics. Other young artistes on the record include Miley Cyrus, Colbie Caillat, Carrie Underwood, Gloriana and Vanessa Hudgens, amongst others. The Carter Twins rendition of the classic LET IT SNOW will be the only single and video from the Universal Music Enterprises release this holiday season (see tab within this site for a link to the song and video).

There is an all star eco system of major believers and partners in the Carter Twins career, starting with world class agency CAA and its Nashville chief, Rod Essig . Rod and the rest of CAA across the country are deeply involved working on all aspects of the twins multimedia career. Their career publicist is Diana Baron, former A&M publicity chief who works in a similar capacity for artists such as Alan Jackson, Colbie Caillat and handles all press efforts for the Special Olympics, amongst other clients. Their media and career direction is being helmed by Spencer Proffer and his staff at Meteor 17.

In fact, both the Memphis video and the second video, “So What” showcased the Twins being consistently promoted on the front page of CMT.com.

Their album, set for release in early 2010, is being produced by Frank Rogers, Billboard magazine’s #1 country producer of the Year (25 #1 singles). The CT have a significant marketing and endorsement relationship with Fender Music Instruments, AEG’s Band Merch company, and a brand strategy and sponsorship affiliation arrangement with Omnicom’s group of agencies such as The Radiate Group and GMR Marketing.

The Carter Twins were in the select nomination group for this year’s CMT Awards, being in the nomination pool for Best New Duo as well as Breakthrough Video of The Year.

Carter Twins - "Heart Like Memphis"
By: Matt Bjorke

Well, given the success of Taylor Swift, this was bound to happen. Welcome to the new world order for country music. Here are 18 year old twins Josh and Zach carter, singing an earnest love song about all the parts that make up the girl of their dreams. "Heart Like Memphis" is their debut single (watch the video here) and another interesting case about this duo is that they're signed to CMT Music/Metor 17. Yes, you read that right; CMT has created a music label in which this duo is their first signing.

"She's got a smile like California, she's got a spirit like New Orleans, Eyes like the lights of New York City, yeah, cool as a Carolina breeze but underneath she's got a heart like Memphis."

Backed by a piano track that recalls The Fray, the chorus of "Heart Like Memphis" is certainly a part of the song that is open to much interpretation. The lyric presented here finds a woman who puts on a good front to hide her true emotions after losing someone she loved alot. The duo certainly sings the track well and with the solid production from Frank Rogers (in what is likely the 'popiest' sounding production he's ever done), there's no doubting that "Heart Like Memphis" has what it takes to be a big hit on radio and CMT.

That being said, the song isn't exactly different from anything on country radio, aside from the brothers seamless harmony vocals and the interesting usage of Geography to describe someone. Still, all of that being said the Carter Twins are a photogenic duo and in the new world of cross-promotion, CMT can and does have the ability to make stars.

The Carter Twins certainly stand a fair shot at breaking from the pack and muscling their way into the hearts of teen and tweens everywhere, which should make the duo one of Country music's biggest new acts in 2009.

CARTER TWINS PREMIER SINGLE "HEART LIKE MEMPHIS"

DEBUTS ON CMT, iTUNES AND RHAPSODY

NASHVILLE, TN (January 26, 2009) – Nashville’s newest young duo, The Carter Twins, debuted on CMT and CMT.com today with their first ever video for their premier single “Heart Like Memphis”. This video is the first opportunity fans have to experience Josh and Zach Carter’s air-tight harmonies on their debut single. “Heart Like Memphis,” will be available for download on iTunes and Rhapsody beginning Tuesday, January 27.

“Heart Like Memphis” introduces the Carter Twins’ fresh, fun approach to country music. The video was filmed in Nashville along the banks of the Cumberland River, under the direction of Eric Welch. The duo describes the video experience as surreal and were thrilled when they received word of people seeing the video on CMT.com before the television debut.

“I didn’t even know our video was up, but our Facebook friends started changing their status and that’s how we found out about it,” said Josh. “It went up a few days early and we freaked out!” Zach adds, “We must have watched it 10 times, over and over. All of our friends were texting us.”

Booked by Rod Essig and his CAA team, the Carter Twins played their biggest show yet over the weekend in Milwaukee, Wisc., opening for Phil Vassar to a crowd of roughly 15,000 fans and are gearing up for a coast to coast industry tour in the next few months.

Fresh out of high school, 18-year-old twins Josh and Zach Carter opted to delay college and pursue their dream of a music career. They recently relocated to Nashville from South Carolina, and spent the summer writing songs and working on their first album. Under the helm of Frank Rogers { Country Producer of the Year (Brad Paisley/Darius Rucker, etc.}, the Carter Twins debut album will be released this summer.
