H.P. Lovecraft

The Horror Out of Arkham & The Dunwich Horror

M17 is repurposing classic literary works of H.P. Lovecraft into all modern media platforms. The range starts with our graphic novels and books, and will extend to feature films, television, merchandise, music, games and digital. Lovecraft's work will blaze across the multimedia landscape via Meteor 17 and its partners, recruiting an entirely new audience for quality horror, science fiction and fantasy.

The anchor to the repurposing of classic HPL content is the executed long term agreement with leading Graphic Novel publisher, IDW (www.idwpublishing.com). IDW is overseeing, along with the M17 team, the updating of classic Lovecraft via acclaimed writers and artists, creating new, long term copyrights to serve as the basis for the diversity of Lovecraft's tales to re-purpose into different platforms such as films, television, merchandise, games, web sites and comics.

H.P. Lovecraft is considered by many to be the greatest horror writer of the 20th century and is about to inspire a whole chain of 21st century films.

In a market obsessed with brands, this is an urgent and unique opportunity to exploit an untapped mine of stories. If you’ve never read Lovecraft, you have definitely seen his influence in others known in the film industry such as Stephen King, Clive Barker, Neil Gaiman, John Carpenter, Guillermo Del Toro, Ron Howard, and James Cameron.

HPL’s work in horror/fantasy/science fiction is perfect for the movie world where such genres have recently brought us: Avatar, Twilight, Inception, Transformers, Paranormal Activity, Wolverine, Where The Wild Things Are, True Blood, Ironman and many others.

Under our guidance, Lovecraft’s work that we will re-purpose from the content that we are publishing with IDW, will blaze across the multimedia landscape, recruiting an entirely new audience for quality horror fiction. We are currently contracting major film, television, merchandising, graphic novel, book and other entities with respect to these properties.

Our long term agreement with Graphic Novel leader IDW is designed to bring Lovecraft to current and future generations in hip graphic novel and comic form as the anchor platform we are building out. All believe that Lovecraft is a brand that can stand toe-to-toe with the biggest in entertainment. We will have comics based on the original Generation 1 for long time fans, on the latest animation and technology for new younger fans, to make entertainment for new fans of all ages.

We plan to tell our stories in any setting, in any time, while creating a common theme throughout. The plan is to have exciting stories in different mediums that all help support each other. Each component can be enjoyed as an individual, separate story, but the overall experience is enhanced by how much of the bigger picture one is exposed to. The possibilities are both endless, and creatively fertile.

In a nutshell: the 'Lost' approach: accessible and interesting to the 'uninitiated', but with enough depth, clues, and mystery to encourage that everyday person to become a Lovecraft devotee and seek out other material that we will publish.
